Yes! We believe we have made the best socks on the market, with the ideal blend of comfort, style, functionality and durability. We back that with free 30 day returns & exchanges and an unlimited lifetime warranty.

Why will these be my "new favorite socks"?

A note from the founder:

"Why am I so confident that these will be your new favorite socks? Because, when I set out to create these, I didn’t stop until they were MY favorite socks! And it took hundreds of samples, tests, and iterations to get there. They feel amazing on my skin, the thickness and stretch is just right for everyday use, my feet are happy at the end of a long day on the go, and I can wear them every day for a week without a smell. And on top of that, I try to create designs that I would want to wear in my every day life, not just out on a hike…”

How does Fiber & Ore compare to other sock brands?

Cotton and synthetic socks leave your feet damp, clammy and smelly, and they stretch and distort after only a few months. Alpaca socks are too hot for everyday use, and have a coarser feel. We created the perfect Merino wool blend to maximize the natural benefits wool in a silky smooth fit with a comfortable stretch, durable impact points, minimal pilling, and more.

Are they worth the cost?

Of course we believe they are, but here’s why: our socks are not simply a luxury, but an upgrade to your everyday life. Like that flattering shirt, your favorite jeans, or your most comfortable shoes. Our unique Merino wool blend socks are softer, more breathable, naturally moisture-wicking, more comfortable, better looking, and significantly better at regulating temperature than your average cotton or synthetic pair. Plus, with our copper-infused fibers, you’re getting added odor-fighting power and durability right where you need it most. They last longer, feel better, and work harder—so you’re not just buying socks, you’re investing in all-day comfort.

MATERIALS & DETAILS

Why copper & wool?

We set out with every intention of making the perfect sock. Merino wool is naturally antimicrobial, breathable, moisture-wicking, and temperature-regulating. Copper is also antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antifungal. In short, these two components combine to give your feet the best possible defense against the sweat and bacteria that create swampy, smelly, and uncomfortable feet.

Are Your Socks 100% Wool?

No, and in fact you won't really find any socks on the market that are 100% wool. You might find some on Etsy, or could knit some yourself for casual lounging, but they are not feasible for daily use with shoes. They require a blend of other fibers, including Spanex (aka Elastane or Lycra) for elasticity (to stretch and stay on your foot), and some combination of Nylon, Polyester and/or Acrylic for reinforcement, durability, structural integrity, softness and other performance.

We tested and analyzed hundreds of different fiber blends before coming up with our own, which we feel is the absolute best on the market. Then we enhanced it further by introducing copper particles into the blend, and thus the name "Fiber & Ore" was coined...

Isn't wool scratchy & hot?

That’s what I thought too! I grew up with rough, itchy wool that we busted out like once a year for our Scout snow campout. Fortunately for us all, this is not that!

Unlike those awful sandpaper socks, Merino wool comes from a breed of sheep (Merino) that have very fine, soft wool that is silky smooth to the touch. Our socks feel like a dream the first time you slide them on your foot!

Like grandpa’s wool it wicks moisture to help keep you dry and warm in cold weather, but it is breathable as well so your feet don’t get clammy and overheated in hot weather.

How do they wick away moisture?

Merino wool’s ultra-fine fibers have a natural crimp that traps air and moves sweat away from your skin to evaporate, while the copper-infused yarn adds bonus breathability and antimicrobial power. This helps keep your feet dry, fresh, and comfortable all day.

Cotton, on the other hand, absorbs and retains moisture, which makes your feet feel swampy in the heat and freezing in the cold, and creates a breeding ground for bacteria and odor.

How do they regulate temperature?

Merino wool is basically Mother Nature’s tech fabric, with built-in climate control. The fibers trap tiny pockets of air to insulate when it’s cold, and when it’s warm, they breathe and release heat and moisture to keep you cool. That means your feet stay at a comfortable, steady temp whether you're chilling at work or active outside. Plus, our copper-dyed threads add a layer of antimicrobial freshness, so hot days don’t mean sweaty, smelly socks.

CHOOSING A SOCK SIZE

Does the size really matter?

Choosing the proper size for your foot is important for optimal fit, feel, performance, and lifespan. That's why we offer several sizes in smaller increments, as opposed to traditional socks that claim to be a "one-size-fits-all" (like shoe size 6-12) when in reality they just fit poorly on everybody.

What if I am between sizes?

This is the best case scenario! Size down for a shorter sock and size up for a longer sock. The sock length is only about a 1-2cm difference in the foot and another 1-2cm difference in the leg, +/- 1cm. So typically it's about a 1-2" total difference from toe to cuff. I am a size 10 myself, so I typically wear our MD sock for casual daily use and LG for sports (like softball and mountain biking) when I want the sock to hit higher on my calf.

You can also base it on your height—if you are taller, size up. If you are shorter, size down.

Can I shrink a larger sock to fit a smaller foot?

Size hack! Although we use a unique Merino wool blend that will minimize shrinkage if you follow our recommended care instructions, you can intentionally shrink a larger sock by 1-2" by ignoring our recommendations and throwing them in a warm or hot wash and warm or hot dry cycle. Start with warm before hot to see how much you want to shrink them, and note that they'll still have plenty of stretch to accommodate larger foot sizes!

USAGE & MAINTENANCE

How do you wash Merino wool socks?

A common concern is shrinkage: we do preshrink our materials to reduce the likelihood of further shrinkage, and Merino wool is more resilient than regular wool. However, like any premium fabric, it deserves a little extra care for optimal performance. Here is what we recommend:

  • Machine wash cold or warm on gentle cycle
  • Hang to air dry
  • You can tumble dry on low heat, but some shrinkage may occur - however, they typically stretch back out when you wear them again.
  • Do not dry clean
  • Do not iron
  • Do not bleach

Note: many of our customers will wear our socks several times between washes. Hang them inside out next to your shoes, and find them dry & fresh the next morning!

Will these Merino wool socks shrink?

Not if you treat them right! We do preshrink our materials to reduce the likelihood of further shrinkage, and Merino wool is more resilient than regular wool. However, like any premium fabric, it deserves a little extra care for optimal performance. We recommend washing them in cold water, inside out, and laying them flat to dry—this helps maintain their shape, softness, and fit. Tossing them in a hot dryer might cause some shrinkage, so skip the heat and they’ll stay looking (and feeling) fresh for the long run.

Note that in our own tests the shrinkage is pretty minimal after a low heat dryer cycle, and the sock will stretch when you put them back on. However if you plan on regularly drying them in the dryer, we recommend sizing up to a larger size when you make your purchase.

So my feet won't stink anymore?

We designed these socks to be the ultimate defense against foot odor! One of the main reasons feet stink is because your socks retain moisture, and that damp, hot environment is the perfect breeding ground for odor-causing bacteria. We use a specialized Merino wool blend that is naturally anti-bacterial, wicks moisture away, and is breathable to help with temperature regulation and evaporation. In addition to that, we integrate true copper thread and copper ion dyes into the fibers, which adds even more antibacterial and antifungal properties. That means less bacteria, less funk, and much fresher feet, even after a long day on the go!

Aren’t wool socks just for hiking and camping?

While not designed strictly as a sock for the great outdoors, our unique Merino wool blend, copper ion treatment, seamless toes, reinforced impact zones, and overall quality and durability make this a fantastic sock for hiking, running, and most other fitness activities. But we want you to enjoy the benefits of wearing these every day, everywhere!
